What is a Colonoscopy?

During a colonoscopy, a flexible tube with a small camera is passed through the rectum and advanced through the colon. The camera allows the doctor to examine the intestinal lining for abnormalities such as polyps, inflammation, bleeding or other lesions.

If an abnormal area or polyp is identified, a biopsy or polyp removal may be performed during the procedure when clinically appropriate.

What to Expect During a Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is generally performed with appropriate sedation or anaesthesia depending on the clinical setting and patient requirements.

After the procedure, you will be monitored until you are sufficiently recovered. Temporary bloating or abdominal discomfort can occur following the procedure.
